Interactive Brokers has joined forces with Cboe Europe Derivatives (CEDX) and is becoming a trading and clearing participant on the platform. Furthermore, this partnership allows Interactive Brokers clients to access over 300 equity derivative contracts on European companies, enhancing their ability to engage with the European derivatives markets.

CEDX, launched in September 2021 by Cboe Global Markets, is set to simplify and streamline access to pan-European equity derivatives for retail and institutional investors. Moreover, the platform’s unified strategy has made it more cost-effective and accessible for investors to participate in the market. Iouri Saroukhanov, Head of European Derivatives at Cboe Europe, believes the collaboration with Interactive Brokers will strengthen and invigorate the region’s derivatives markets, fostering investor optimism.

Interactive Broker’s addition to CEDX coincides with its wider expansion of European derivatives products. Recently, it launched Daily Options on the CAC 40 Index, equipping traders with innovative tools for managing short-term strategies and French market exposure.

Milan Galik, CEO of Interactive Brokers, underscored the empowering aspect of the new partnership, emphasizing that the extensive range of European equity options and index derivatives available on CEDX will offer clients greater choice and flexibility in managing their investments. Cboe Clear Europe N.V. clears the equity options at CEDX, allowing investors to use underlying stocks as collateral and potentially reduce initial margins by approximately 70% for covered call positions.

As of April 2024, CEDX’s offerings include options on companies from 14 countries, representing over 90% of the average daily volume and open interest for the top 600 European equity options. Stock settlements occur in local Central Securities Depositories (CSDs), eliminating additional costs and facilitating netting with corresponding cash equities transactions.

In addition to expanding its European derivatives offerings, Interactive Brokers recently launched cryptocurrency trading on its UK platform, capitalizing on the increased interest in digital assets. Lastly, this strategic move aligns with Interactive Brokers’ commitment to providing comprehensive trading solutions and reflects the growing importance of European markets in the global financial landscape.
