Trading 212 completes automated deposits through TrueLayer, simplifying instant funding and recurring investments for UK customers.
Trading 212 has completed the rollout of its automated deposits feature through TrueLayer’s Bank on File payment technology. The new service allows UK customers to fund their investment accounts automatically from their bank accounts without opening their banking applications or authorising every transaction separately. The feature aims to simplify recurring investments while removing payment-related obstacles that have traditionally affected automated investing.
Trading 212 has integrated Bank on File into its existing AutoInvest system, which operates through its popular Pies feature. Although the platform introduced automated investing earlier, conventional payment methods created delays and additional complications for customers. For instance, card payments involve transaction fees, potential failures and expiry dates. Meanwhile, Direct Debit transactions can take several days to settle, leaving investors waiting before they can access their funds for market opportunities.
However, TrueLayer’s Bank on File addresses these limitations through commercial Variable Recurring Payments (cVRP). The technology allows customers to authorise businesses to collect payments of varying amounts within agreed limits without requiring repeated authentication. Following a one-time setup through their banking applications, investors can select their preferred AutoInvest schedules. Subsequently, deposits move directly from their bank accounts into Trading 212, allowing customers to put their money to work immediately.
Since launching the service in June 2026, Trading 212 has reported stronger-than-expected performance. According to the company, 97% of payments succeed, while the remaining transactions mainly fail because customers have insufficient funds. Furthermore, Bank on File’s share of recurring deposits has increased more than fivefold in less than four months, even without customer marketing campaigns. The company also confirmed that all six of the UK’s largest banks now support the service. Additionally, the average Bank on File transaction exceeds the average card payment by more than 50%, highlighting customers’ growing adoption of the payment method.
Angel Milachkov, Head of Growth at Trading 212, said, “True automated deposits have been among our top requested features since day one.” He added that TrueLayer’s technology finally provides the missing payment infrastructure for seamless automated investing. Similarly, Francesco Simoneschi, CEO and co-founder of TrueLayer, described automated deposits as the “holy grail of retail investing.” He explained that Bank on File removes traditional payment limitations and gives investors a simpler way to fund their portfolios. Looking ahead, Trading 212 plans to integrate Bank on File into important stages of its customer experience, positioning it as the preferred funding method for automated investments.
