Standard Chartered Becomes Digital Custodian for 21shares, delivering secure and compliant crypto custody for growing institutional demand.
Standard Chartered announced its new role as the digital asset custodian for 21shares and this development strengthens the institutional framework surrounding digital asset investments. The bank took this step to support 21shares’ expanding suite of institutional services, which already includes a wide range of crypto investment products and strong risk management structures. Moreover, the appointment demonstrates how both institutions aim to enhance secure access for investors seeking exposure to digital assets.
Standard Chartered now uses its global cross-border banking expertise, rigorous risk controls, and innovative custody technology to provide 21shares with a more secure and reliable foundation, while 21shares continues to broaden its institutional offerings. Furthermore, the collaboration directly responds to increasing institutional demand for regulated and trustworthy digital asset solutions. As more investors look to participate in the crypto market, the partnership contributes to a more mature and structured environment for digital asset adoption.
21shares initially began working with Standard Chartered’s newly launched digital asset custody service in Luxembourg, which is registered with the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier and designed to offer a fully compliant and secure platform for storing digital assets. Consequently, both companies now aim to elevate investor confidence by ensuring high standards of safety and transparency.
Margaret Harwood-Jones, Global Head of Financing and Securities Services at Standard Chartered, emphasized the significance of this collaboration by stating, “We are excited to offer our digital asset custody services to ETP providers and other institutions, enabling them to meet the highest standards of safety and compliance. Working with 21shares as their digital asset custodian allows us to extend our expertise into the fast-evolving digital asset ecosystem and support digital asset-linked products, providing institutional investors with the assurance they require.” Her remarks highlight the bank’s intention to deepen its footprint in the digital asset landscape.
Meanwhile, Mandy Chiu, Global Head of Product Development at 21shares, expressed strong confidence in the partnership, saying, “Partnering with Standard Chartered marks an important milestone in our continued mission to bring institutional-grade infrastructure to the digital asset ecosystem. As one of the world’s most trusted financial institutions, Standard Chartered brings deep expertise in cross-border banking, risk management, and custody. Their support strengthens our ability to meet the evolving needs of institutional investors, providing compliant and transparent access to the crypto market.”
