OANDA Prop Trader has announced cryptocurrency integration as a payment method for its trading challenges, marking a significant move in response to increasing global demand. This development allows traders to engage with OANDA’s services using approximately two dozen cryptocurrencies, including major assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin, as well as stablecoins such as TUSD, USDC, and USDT. Importantly, OANDA also accepts meme tokens like DOGE and SHIB.

Lucian Laureman, Head of Digital Assets and Deputy COO at OANDA announced, “We’re pleased to add crypto as a payment method in response to rising global demand.” He highlighted the growing adoption of cryptocurrencies among tech-driven consumers worldwide, positioning this move as a gateway for traders looking to leverage the digital economy within prop trading.

Earlier this year, OANDA ventured into the prop trading space under OANDA Labs Trader, rebranding it to OANDA Prop Trader to better align with its professional trading services. The platform treats qualified traders as signal providers, integrating their trading signals into OANDA’s proprietary trading models to inform market positioning decisions. While the capital provided to funded accounts is virtual, the company assumes real market risk based on these signals.

The expansion into prop trading reflects a broader trend in the retail brokerage industry. Other firms like Trade.com and Traders Trust have recently entered this space, joining early movers such as Axi and Hantech. This shift underscores a growing interest in prop trading, which offers lower barriers to entry and limited downside risk compared to traditional FX/CFD trading models.

Finance Magnates recently reported on industry veteran Joshua Dentrinos’ acquisition of prop trading brand Funded Peaks, further illustrating the sector’s dynamic growth potential. OANDA’s Head of Emerging Markets previously commented on this trend, noting the prop firm industry’s potential to outpace traditional FX/CFD markets due to its accessibility and risk management advantages.

With cryptocurrencies now integrated into its payment options, OANDA Prop Trader aims to cater to a diverse global clientele seeking innovative financial solutions within the burgeoning digital asset landscape.
