Nasdaq appoints Roland Chai as President of European Market Services, effective January 1, 2024, in this pivotal role. Chai will spearhead Nasdaq’s multi-asset trading, clearing, listings, and market services operations throughout Europe. This encompasses stock exchanges in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
Roland Chai expressed his enthusiasm for the position, emphasizing the significance of Nasdaq’s European Market Service as a dynamic growth engine for northern European markets. He stated, “Our European Market Service plays a key role in advancing our core mission to modernize markets.” Chai aims to leverage his experience and collaborate with the exceptional team at Nasdaq to strengthen the company’s technology leadership and marketplace excellence further.
He highlighted Nasdaq’s commitment to sustainability and climate investment, showcasing the firm’s dedication to driving positive change in the financial sector.
Chai brings a wealth of experience to his new role, with a background in technology, risk management, trading, and post-trade activities across various asset classes. Having joined Nasdaq in 2020 as Chief Risk Officer, he played a pivotal role in developing and reviewing the global risk program. Since 2022, Chai has been at the helm of Nasdaq’s Marketplace Technology business, which provides purpose-built technology solutions to enhance the performance, resilience, and trust of the financial ecosystem. The business serves more than 130 marketplaces, CCPs, CSDs, and regulators in over 50 countries, solidifying its position as one of the world’s largest market infrastructure technology providers.
Prior to joining Nasdaq, Roland Chai held key positions such as Head of Post-Trade and Group Risk Officer at Hong Kong Exchange and Head of Equities at LCH Ltd. His career commenced in software development, showcasing a diverse skill set that positions him well to lead Nasdaq’s European Market Services.Roland Chai will continue to be based in Stockholm and report to Tal Cohen, Co-President of Nasdaq, marking a strategic move for the company’s leadership in Europe
