IG Group launches £125 million share buyback program to reduce capital and enhance shareholder value through structured repurchases
IG Group Holdings plc has moved forward with its previously announced share buyback program by appointing Morgan Stanley & Co. International Plc to execute the plan under predetermined parameters. The company confirmed that the initiative, first revealed on 19 March 2026, will involve repurchasing shares worth up to £125 million, reinforcing its strategy to optimize capital structure and enhance shareholder value.
Moreover, the firm stated that the sole objective of the programme is to reduce its share capital, signaling a focused approach toward improving financial efficiency. The buyback will proceed in two equal tranches of up to £62.5 million each, and the first phase has officially commenced on 1 April 2026. The programme will run through 30 September 2026, while the company will execute the second tranche later, depending on market conditions, share price performance, and competing capital requirements.
In addition, IG Group clarified that it will hold all acquired shares in treasury rather than cancel them immediately, thereby allowing greater flexibility in managing future capital needs. The company emphasized that this structure enables it to respond more effectively to evolving financial circumstances while maintaining control over its equity base. Furthermore, the programme will operate within the limits approved by shareholders during the annual general meeting held on 17 September 2025.
Under this authority, the company retains the ability to repurchase up to 36,155,787 shares, ensuring that the buyback remains aligned with governance requirements and investor approvals. At the same time, IG Group highlighted that the execution of the programme will strictly follow regulatory guidelines and internal policies. Additionally, it confirmed that further updates will be provided before initiating the second tranche, thereby keeping investors informed.
Overall, this development reflects IG Group’s continued commitment to disciplined capital allocation. By leveraging structured buybacks and maintaining a clear execution framework, the company aims to strengthen its financial position while delivering long-term value to shareholders.
